Shocking but true.  A truth that should disturb and motivate us.  A horrific place.  Yet it points us to the love of God at the cross, where we can find refuge from wrath.  Where is Hell?  At the end of a Christless life.

WORSHIP IN SONG Instructions by John Wesley

THAT this part of divine worship may be more acceptable to God, as well as more profitable to yourself and others, be careful to observe the following directions: 1. SING ALL See that you join with the congregation as frequently as you can. Let not a slight degree of weakness or weariness hinder you. If it is a cross to you, take it up, and you will find a blessing. 2. SING LUSTILY AND WITH A GOOD COURAGE Beware of singing as if you were half dead, or half asleep; but lift up your voice with strength. Be no more afraid of your voice now, nor more ashamed of its being, heard, than when you sung the songs of satan. 3. SING MODESTLY Do not bawl, so as to be heard above, or distinct from, the rest of the congregation, that you may not destroy the harmony; but strive to unite your voices together, so as to make one clear melodious sound. 4. SING IN TIME Whatever time is sung, be sure to keep with it. Do not run before, nor stay behind it; but attend closely to the leading voices, and move therewith as exactly as you can. And take care you sing not too slow. This drawling way naturally steals on all who are lazy; and it is high time to drive it out from among us, and sing all our tunes just as quick as we did at first. 5. ABOVE ALL, SING SPIRITUALLY Have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself, or any other creature. In order to this, attend strictly to the sense of what you sing; and see that your heart is not carried away with the sound, but offered to God continually; so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approve of here, and reward when he cometh in the clouds of heaven.

Our Sufficiency

Our sufficiency is of God. The power of His divine enablement. The power from on high. Perhaps you feel inadequate - like Moses, Joshua, Ehud, Jeremiah, Gideon. We can find that He is enough. His great grace is sufficient. Not unto us, not unto us, but unto Thy Name give GLORY!

Esther

Esther - woman of faith and courage. She trusted in God's care in the midst of great crisis and the nation was saved. A day marked for destruction was turned into a day of victory and deliverance. God gives opportunity. Will we seize it? Your life can make a difference. The glory of God was revealed. Perhaps you're here "for such a time as this"? God still uses ordinary men and women. Will you be an Esther? A Mordecai? Be available to do God's will.

Right thing, wrong way

A flashy new cart for the ark. Like the new fad gurus of churchdom today it was not God's will. Better rather to follow the scriptures and honour the Lord, than to provoke His wrath. A timely word for the church today.

The Truth about Christmas

They Rose up to Play

Richard O'Wallace relates how the people worshipped and then rose up to play (Exodus 32:6). A caution to the people of God - not to be idolaters (1 Cor 10:7), but to worship God truly.

The modern church seems to have lost three precious and beautiful things... (1) Worship - in the beauty of holiness; worship that pleases the Lord. (2) Holiness - it makes your life truly beautiful. (3) The Fear of the Lord - the beginning of wisdom.

Restoring The Reverence

2 Corinthians 7:1 ...Perfecting holiness in the fear of God… Some things are counted worthy of reverence. In the Word of God we see an awe-inspiring sense of the soul-transforming presence of the Holy God. There’s a reverence and honour… His Name - Psalm 111:9, The Sanctuary, The Home, The Sabbath, The Word, The Aged. Our Service ought to be holy.

True Biblical holiness isn’t about… Narrow-mindedness and legalism, it is about belonging to God, and the 'wholeness' and true quality of life that He brings. Real reverence has gone missing. A call for a return to God-centred worship and living.
